“Fitting in” is what we are used to. There could be times when we feel like we don’t fit in. We may have an impossible imagination or some quirky habits. And this can usually lead to discouragement and resentment. But rather than hiding your abilities, this is the perfect time to show off your skills and talents, making you different and allowing the hiring manager or recruiter to see the value you can bring to the company.
But being different doesn’t always mean that we are! In some cases, we struggle to find something different about ourselves. Something we can show for our work. It’s not always easy. It takes time to identify what could make you stand out and it may be right under your nose. Other times, it could require a little work, like learning or doing something extraordinary and discovering who we can be.
Whether you are a blue alien or just a little quirky, believe that you are special enough and can offer a big difference to whichever company you choose to work for. Part of standing out is also believing in yourself and being confident enough to show what you can do.
Different traits are meant to be celebrated.
