Disney JobSeeking Day30: No Dream Is Too Big

 Disney JobSeeking Day30: Mickey Mouse

No Dream Is Too Big

Ambition. Imagination. Innovation. Desire. All these make up your dreams. Don’t be afraid of setting your sights high. Reaching for the stars isn’t enough. Reach further. Infinity and beyond is waiting for you. Are you ready to take it up?

Even when something doesn’t go your way, remember every once in a while, the scales will tip. Being forced down will only push you further up, higher than ever before. When you believe in something, truly believe in it, no matter what - absolutely and unconditionally. It will happen. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But eventually.

Everybody's got their own destiny. When we put ourselves out there, a lot of the time other people are going to chase the same opportunities as us. There's nothing wrong with keeping your eye on the prize. If you don't, you might fall behind.

Open new doors and keep moving forward. Don’t be discouraged by the unknown. The journey to success will always be hard; you just need to have the energy and motivation to try (and don’t forget your pixie dust). If you fail, pick yourself up, bounce back and try a different route. There’s always something new you can try.

Avoid listening to destructive criticism and trust your gut. Your goals will lead you to your dream. Be bold. Be patient. Be true. And follow your heart.

“All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.”

Key Points:
> Let your imagination roam
> Follow a path that resonates with you
> Never give up
> Walk into the unknown

Disney JobSeeking Day29: Your Dents Are Valuable

 Disney JobSeeking Day29: Cars

Your Dents Are Valuable

Negativity is a sickness that’s quite easy to catch given the numerous rejections and failures you can go through during this journey. And even though it can be depressing, frustrating and irritating, you are in charge of what happens next - positive or negative.

You may have made a few mistakes. Incompetent answers on your application? Nerves got you down in an interview? And you take all of these as flaws. But there are valuable encounters. Each experience gets you one step closer to your dream, provided you learn from those negative situations.

It’s putting in the little extra effort in your research, doing up your resume and putting in that extra “you” in the interview. Don’t be a robot; don’t be too perfect. Everyone has weaknesses and that is one of the common questions you’ll hear at an interview.

Be prepared. Don’t get nervous. Not knowing will indicate a lack of self-awareness. Saying you have none will make you seem arrogant. Your best bet is to give an honest answer and a fix-it strategy. This will show that you know yourself and are capable of preparing and handling situations.

“Don’t get them dents buffed, pulled, filled or painted by nobody. They are way too valuable.”

Key Points:
> Identify your weaknesses
> Mistakes equals experience
> Practice makes perfect

Disney JobSeeking Day28: Don't Look Back

 Disney JobSeeking Day28: The Incredibles

Don't Look Back

With every response, every move, every decision, you grow individually and quite possibly, professionally. This contributes to your experiences. But every once in a while, rejections and failures will strive to bring you down. You get your hopes up only to realize gravity still exists.

Each application you send in will have a positive or a negative response. You must be prepared for both. If it is positive, that’s great. But if it’s negative, that’s also good. Be grateful for your failures as much as your successes. They are a great learning experience and will add value moving forward.

Most employers don’t offer feedback if you have not made it through, so it’s difficult to know why you weren’t picked. Don't dwell on missing this opportunity by thinking of something you think you did wrong. The odds are that is not the reason. Don’t look back unless you’re headed that way.

It’s very easy to spiral downwards thinking about all the ways you could’ve done better. But take the hard route upwards. Learn from your mistakes and carry on. There’s always room for improvement, but if you keep living in the past, you may as well get stuck there.

“Don't look back. It distracts from the now.”

Key Points:
> Don’t dwell in the past
> Keep moving forward

Disney JobSeeking Day27: Learn From Others

 Disney JobSeeking Day27: Pocahontas

Learn From Others

Whether it’s job seeking, working, networking or academic, you are bound to be working with a number of different people and teams. These people you interact with will have different ideas, different experiences, backgrounds and different methods of understanding and doing things.

It is true that given a problem or a discussion, there are many paths to one solution. But one path can also lead to many solutions. No matter the wind direction, find a way to learn something from people. Respect their perspective and listen to what they have to say.

That doesn’t mean throwing your passions away if someone says something discouraging about it. Everyone has their own views about things and you shouldn’t get disheartened, irritated or demotivated when you hear negative things about something you’re passionate about. If you believe in something, it’s definitely worth fighting for.

Anyone and everyone can teach you something. You only have to be willing to learn. It might be something crucial or relevant to your job search. You might learn some tricks in navigating your way around. Or better yet, you might find tried and tested ways to succeed at your interviews or applications.

“You’ll learn things you never knew you never knew.”

Key Points:
> Take away something from interactions with people
> Find job discussions
> Find similar passion groups

Disney JobSeeking Day26: There's More To Life Than Scaring

 Disney JobSeeking Day26: Monsters University

There's More To Life Than Scaring

As important as it is to find a job, remember it’s just as important to let it take a backseat sometimes. Keep your priorities in order. Your family, your friends, the ones standing by you during this journey should be recognized. Schedule time for them and make plans to socialize. Your job hunt isn’t going anywhere.

And in these times, it is relatively vital to surround yourself with your loved ones, virtually or physically. You may be desperate for a job, but don’t give in and pick up any and all opportunities that come your way. Some may not be relevant. And some may not be worth your time. You need to pick the ones that help you gain value and the ones that challenge your potential. Opportunities that you wish to pursue.

Also, remember that winning a game, acing a test or getting a job isn’t solely based on desire and ambition. You may want something so much, but that will not stop someone else from going after the same thing. And they may win this time, but should you give up? Not a chance.

The ingenious people are the ones willing to work in the shadow of uncertainty.

Key Points:
> Make time for family and friends
> Don’t job search 24x7
> Develop new hobbies

Disney JobSeeking Day25: Let It Go

 Disney JobSeeking Day25: Frozen

Let It Go

The choices you made, whatever happened to you, all the rejections and troubles you’ve faced, it’s all in the past. Worrying about it now will not fix it. It will only add to the anxiety of trying to succeed and meet expectations set by you and others, which doesn’t help you either.

Worry. Depression. Frustration. Fear. Failures. Being pessimistic about the situation will not get you anywhere. You need to let go of it all. It can be easier said than done, but with enough practice and patience, you can learn to pull through.

Don’t apologize for making mistakes or experimenting. If it helps you win or fulfill that dream, there’s nothing wrong with challenging new ideas or proving new theories. Have the confidence to do anything, even if you have to rule a kingdom. Wouldn’t that be the opportunity of a lifetime?

Being able to stand your ground can be seen as very courageous. Maybe you’re dealing with a negative feeling; it could be wise to step back and take a breather. Not your style? Then go on and push through. Take it up as a challenge. Let the storm rage on.

The past is in the past. Just let it go.

Key Points:
> Don’t sweat the small stuff
> Be optimistic
> See challenges, not problems

Disney JobSeeking Day24: Keep Growing. Keep Moving.

Disney JobSeeking Day24: Lady And The Tramp

Keep Growing. Keep Moving.

One word is seriously underutilized here - EXPLORE. Even while job searching, exploring the possibilities and putting yourself out there is just as important as sending in applications for jobs. Creating your identity online is crucial to be noticed by hiring managers and recruiters.

Brainstorm to see what can set you apart. And then go for it. If it’s something you need to learn, learn it. If you need to do something, do it. Despite finishing school, college or university, don’t stop learning. Knowledge and skills keep evolving in this technologically advancing world, and with the click of a button, you can learn anything.

It is often desirable to have a certain ability or an extra skill that can be seen as a little something extra. And this will not let you down. Whether you use it or not, there is no loss in learning.

And it doesn’t end when you find a job. To keep your skills sharp, you have to keep growing, keep learning, keep doing and keep experiencing. Don’t get comfortable. If you feel like your tasks or applications are becoming mundane, start challenging your mind and push yourself to reach new heights.

“There’s a great big hunk of world out there with no fence around it.”

Key Points:
> Keep learning
> Challenge yourself
> Explore skills on the internet

Disney JobSeeking Day23: The Road Isn't Always Smooth

 Disney JobSeeking Day23: The Aristocats

The Road Isn't Always Smooth

One would hope that you have a straight path ahead. However, even with planning and research, goals and aspirations, things can always take a turn for the worse. Like your butler kidnaps you and leaves you to fend for yourself. It’s always the butler.

Your best defense - Prepare your game plan. Be prepared to have a Plan B, a Plan C, a Plan D and so on. Use the “if something could go wrong, it will” prompt. To be prepared, plan every route to your dream job.

Even though there may only be one dream job, there can be many ways to get there. Everyone has their own perspective and own way of finding solutions to navigating their job search journey. Now is the time to figure out which recipe is right for you. Try all you want, but don’t overcomplicate the situation. Most times, you just need to be straightforward and simplify your means and methods. Learn to plan, revise and simplify.

Don’t make excuses. There’s always another way. Take control of your own path and don’t let the twists and turns affect your motivation and more importantly, your passion towards your goal.

Fight fair. Fight hard. But most importantly, fight smart.

Key Points:
> Have a game plan
> Plan. Revise. Simplify
> Don’t make excuses

Disney JobSeeking Day22: You Are Not Alone

Disney JobSeeking Day22: Big Hero 6

You Are Not Alone

Whether you are a newbie or you’ve been at this game for a while, know that there are other people going through the same application and (sometimes) infuriating job search process. And you can use this to your advantage.

If you have an interest in a certain career path or looking for a job in your field, find networking groups on platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook and Telegram. Attended a networking event? Found likely connections who share the same interests as you? Create a WhatsApp group and keep in touch with relevant job posts and advice.

Keep each other motivated and active. You could be an extra cheery science geek, a young, hopeful prodigy or a huggable robot. No matter what, you will find people that can help you with your journey to job seeking. You just have to look through the vast beyond, also called the internet.

Surround yourself with invaluable connections and don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice when needed. Everyone needs a pick-me-up now and then. Don’t limit yourself to job seekers only. Connect with recruiters and employees from a company you intend to work for, or ex-colleagues perhaps.

Together with friends, everything becomes a lot more fun.

Key Points:
> Join job groups
> Participate in discussions
> Network!

Disney JobSeeking Day21: Even Miracles Take Time

 Disney JobSeeking Day21: Cinderella

Even Miracles Take Time

Patience isn’t the easiest to maintain during a job search, but it is one of the most essential attributes that you can have. Time is an important factor, and no matter what stage of the process you’re in, application, interview, offer or rejection, make the most of your time.

More often than not, you may find yourself frustrated, tired, challenged or even anxious or excited. That’s all part of this journey. Job searching in itself can be a job and you have to make the most of your time searching, but you should also find the patience to wait for the perfect match because there will be one.

Your “happily ever after” career is waiting for you. With every application, you are one step closer to achieving your dream. Have a little faith no matter what situation you are in. We all deserve a little magic now and then, and it will come to us at the right time. We have to help ourselves up first. Consider the little things till then: tweak your resume, practice your body language, do your research. Just until your fairy godmother shows up to help you.

You gotta have a little rain to find a rainbow.

Key Points:
> Patience is key
> Don’t waste time
> Don’t lose hope

Disney JobSeeking Day20: You Are More Than You Think

Disney JobSeeking Day20: Winnie The Pooh

You Are More Than You Think

When you are knocked off your feet, make it a point to get back up and try again. Stay cheerful, be grateful for the experience and carry on. Most times our self-doubt takes a toll on us, leading us to be timid and unwilling to push ourselves forward, enough to see our true value.

It is true, too much ambition can get to our head, telling us that we can get there with or without the work, or kick us back a step and leave us discouraged. And most times, we are comfortable in our own shoes, staying where we are, not looking to move forward because where we are is safe, snug and homely.

But without moving forward, you won’t be able to learn or grow, either personally or professionally. You can always sit in your region of the forest and wait for things to come to you, but it might be better to step out and get there yourself. You can do it. Don’t be afraid to be a little assertive when asking questions or a little brave when meeting new people or potential connections.

You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.

Key Points:
> Don’t lose hope
> Put yourself out there
> Take chances

Disney JobSeeking Day19: Define Your Own Limits

Disney JobSeeking Day19: Ratatouille

Define Your Own Limits

During this exhaustive job searching, it’s not only rejection that can hurt us. Fear can be a strong contributor too, that pushes you away from applying for your dream job or influencing your self-confidence.

People, and any forms of media or otherwise, can discourage you from what you are trying to achieve by making you believe that you have to look, act or be a certain way to get to where you want to be. Not to mention, the expectations we have for ourselves to meet a particular aim. A rat trying to be a chef, for example. Not exactly the most ideal scenario.

It can hold you back. It can get caught up in your head. Don’t let fear hit that far. When we let fear in our lives, it holds us back only because we listen to it. You can’t always play it safe. Trust yourself and your dream, enough to put in the right efforts for them.

Having ambitions and career goals that seem frightening to achieve can be daunting, but instead of looking at the big picture, scale it down to smaller steps that can be easy to work towards. You might surprise yourself with what you can achieve.

Your only limit is your soul.

Key Points:
> Trust yourself
> Build your self-confidence
> Don’t be afraid to try something new

Disney JobSeeking Day18: Stand Out

Disney JobSeeking Day18: Lilo and Stitch

Stand Out

“Fitting in” is what we are used to. There could be times when we feel like we don’t fit in. We may have an impossible imagination or some quirky habits. And this can usually lead to discouragement and resentment. But rather than hiding your abilities, this is the perfect time to show off your skills and talents, making you different and allowing the hiring manager or recruiter to see the value you can bring to the company.

But being different doesn’t always mean that we are! In some cases, we struggle to find something different about ourselves. Something we can show for our work. It’s not always easy. It takes time to identify what could make you stand out and it may be right under your nose. Other times, it could require a little work, like learning or doing something extraordinary and discovering who we can be.

Whether you are a blue alien or just a little quirky, believe that you are special enough and can offer a big difference to whichever company you choose to work for. Part of standing out is also believing in yourself and being confident enough to show what you can do.

Different traits are meant to be celebrated.

Key Points:
> Celebrate your uniqueness
> Do something different
> Take up something you know will contribute to your unique experience

Disney JobSeeking Day17: Hakuna Matata

Disney JobSeeking Day17: The Lion King

Hakuna Matata

It means No Worries for the rest of your days. Recovering from job rejection after rejection is not easy. But there’s always something more. Something will click. Worrying will only de-motivate you and put you in a slump.

Find time for you. Friends, family, social functions. Don’t avoid these to make more time for your job search and research. You might drive yourself insane. Talk a walk once in a while. Or paint. Listen to music. Start a new hobby. Learn a new language. Do anything to get your mind away from frustration and regret.

It’s in the past. There are two ways you can go - either run from it or learn from it. The flight or fight response. Quitting is not the answer. Show your perseverance and resilience and try again. Don’t worry. Something will definitely click eventually.

Remember all the good that came from the negative situations and learn from them. These experiences will only help you later on. If you think you are responsible for the negativity, then change the variables. Do something different. If that doesn’t work, try something else. Just don’t fret the small stuff and don’t try to be perfect. Hakuna Matata!

Nothing like a problem-free philosophy.

Key Points:
> Don’t worry
> Step away from your frustration
> Never give up

Disney JobSeeking Day16: Look Before You Leap

 Disney JobSeeking Day16: Tarzan

Look Before You Leap

Planning and organizational skills are the main keys to have during your job hunt. Defining goals, knowing your profession and your industry, and identifying your skillset can almost guarantee that you know what you are getting yourself into.

When researching, make sure the company shares your values and stands for something you believe in. If you get the job, you are going to stand for it too. Evaluate the risks of taking up a potential job and don’t be afraid to ask questions about the role or your future with them. Most companies now offer flexible working, for example. Or maybe you would want to know what “a day in the life” would be like?

Take a look at job boards, connect with company recruiters or employees and check job posts on platforms, like LinkedIn. Prepare for interviews and get advice from blogs, videos, articles and forums you can find on LinkedIn and other websites.

Planning your steps and short-term goals will definitely make your journey easier and a lot more comforting. You can “wing it” when the time comes, but your improvisation could be noticed by the employer.

Don’t let go of the current vine until you have a hold onto the next one.

Key Points:
> Do your research
> Look at job boards/ posts
> Prepare and plan
> Ask questions

Disney JobSeeking Day15: Take Initiative

 Disney JobSeeking Day15: Moana

Take Initiative

Sometimes, boundaries are just meant to be broken. Sometimes, it’s as simple as finding a connection from the company you wish to work for or as complex as saving an island from a plague-like curse. If you know you can do it, go for it. No one’s going to do it for you.

Whether it’s a fear of what other people think, fear of moving forward or being stuck in a place, you need to be brave enough to tackle the situation and emerge stronger on the other end.

Navigate your way through your project, career path or job search. Times like these can shake your confidence and self-doubt can overpower you. Create a routine, a timetable or anything that will help you effectively take your mark and go the extra mile. The future is full of unchartered waters. Just take the ride.

Going the extra mile could mean putting in hours of work, reconstructing your CV or doing some extra research on a company or profession. At an interview, take an interest in the company and its views, products and employees. Explain what value you could bring to the company.

Take the first step and there’s no telling how far you’ll go.

Key Points:
> Ask questions about your role and the team
> Identify your value
> Be prompt in your responses and messages
> Be brave

Disney JobSeeking Day14: Be Confident

 Disney JobSeeking Day14: Aladdin

Be Confident

Whatever your profession or field, one skill that is vital to have is confidence. Whether you are a person that doesn’t speak up or a ‘fake it till you make it’ person, there’s always room to grow your self-confidence.

While, to some people, self-confidence can come naturally, it is still an invaluable skill to master. Nerves can often get the better of us, in an interview or even in an application. We think of what the other person would like to hear. You should definitely keep this in mind, but focus more on positivity. Try to feel relaxed and happy.

It may sound mindless, but try finding courses and opportunities on confidence. Practice answering common questions in front of the mirror. Take small steps like going to events and volunteering opportunities to push yourself at least a little. Speak to people you don’t know and try and make new friends. Sometimes, even faking confidence works just as well.

It’s easy to get caught up in confidence and sometimes, we let our ego get in the way, justifying that we could be superior. Avoid this. No matter your knowledge or position, there’s always more to learn.

Remember you need to be confident in your destiny to get there.

Key Points:
> Network with different people
> Practice, practice, practice
> Don’t get over-confident

Disney JobSeeking Day13: Online Presence

Disney JobSeeking Day13: Wreck-It Ralph

Online Presence

In today’s digitally enhanced world, it’s almost impossible not to find a person on social media platforms, professional networks or simply online. Maintaining your online presence can be important when it comes to allowing employers to review your work and get a sense of who you are.

There are lots of ways to get yourself online. Put up interesting content on platforms like LinkedIn. Not a writer? No problem. As a job seeker, try and attend webinars and workshops to improve your skills. Perhaps write about what you learned or your experience with the event and recommend it to your connections who you know will gain from this reflection.

Start a blog or your own website. Showcase your talents on social media - what projects have you recently been up to? Where have your interests taken you? Hiring managers and recruiters will be keen to know what applicable interests or goals you have.

This being said, filter your media across your social media. You don’t want people to get the wrong idea or any negative impressions about you. Make it positive content and where necessary, try and associate it with your field, like an achievement or an accomplished goal.

Just try not to wreck it.

Key Points:
> Avoid negative media
> Showcase your achievements and talents
> Participate in discussions that interest you
> Write, draw or create interesting content

Disney JobSeeking Day12: Networking

 Disney JobSeeking Day12: 101 Dalmatians

Networking

Networking is a very crucial part of job hunting. The best way to make new contacts - networking. It’s about building a professional relationship with others for the benefit of you as well as the other person. People are important!

With networking, also comes trust. If you have that trust and online presence, it can make a huge difference. It may be a little stressful at first, but you never know what you might be able to learn or what you may achieve by knowing the right people.

Reconnect with former co-workers, bosses and classmates who can introduce you to other people and professionals who may know about relevant jobs in your field. They can also be people you’ve met at a networking event or through a webinar. It can also help to have people in your connections, who have overcome similar experiences and can offer advice and tips you can put into effect in your own life.

While having connections is important, it’s equally vital to surround yourself with good people that can help you grow personally and professionally. Friends, family and people who will help keep you motivated and focused on achieving your goals.

Some dreams just need a few helping paws.

Key Points:
> Attend networking events
> Connect on LinkedIn
> Make yourself known to your contacts

Disney JobSeeking Day11: Lying Will Get You Nowhere

Disney JobSeeking Day11: Pinocchio

Lying Will Get You Nowhere

You might be tempted to exaggerate on an application, but those lies can grow and grow far beyond your control and suddenly, you are stuck in a big mess.

Lying always comes back to haunt you. Lying might even get you stuck in some situations and you could possibly lose the trust of your employer or the hiring company. If you lie, be prepared to face the consequences during an interview, maybe during a skills test or even later in your job. It will definitely earn you a negative reaction.

There is an easier way. Not having a certain skill or not having done something may not be beneficial, but you can put in the effort and accomplish the task if you put your mind to it. Simply state what you know and identify what you can learn.

If you don’t meet your dream job requirements, hold off on applying for it and get the relevant information and skills required to apply. Set yourself goals to complete techniques or technologies relevant to that requirement. And come back, more confident than ever, with the knowledge of the material and the role.

“A lie keeps growing and growing until it’s as plain as the nose on your face.”

Key Points:
> Don’t exaggerate your skills/ talents
> Work for what you want

Disney JobSeeking Day10: Believe In Yourself

 Disney JobSeeking Day10: Tinkerbell

Believe In Yourself

Searching for a job can be quite a struggle. That journey alone can be difficult if you keep reaching for something, but you find yourself failing at it. More often than not, you may keep pressuring yourself into putting your energy into finding a job… any job. This will eventually lead to negativity and undue stress.

You could start to lose hope in yourself and start expecting rejections. But you have to remember that nothing is impossible. You might just be on the wrong path to the right job. Stop for a minute. You need to find your positivity and motivation to pick yourself up and try again. Instead of doing the same thing over and over again, brainstorm new things and keep trying.

Stay motivated and keep up your drive to succeed. You simply have to believe in yourself and tell yourself that nothing is impossible. The greater your belief, the more likely you are to want to succeed. Use a placebo or an incentive to keep yourself motivated - it does help to have something to look forward to, after tackling something strenuous.

Believe in yourself and you’ll fly. All you need is a little faith, trust and of course, pixie dust.

Key Points:
> Don’t lose hope
> Plan. Work. If you fail, try again
> Stay motivated

Disney JobSeeking Day9: There's No One Like You

 Disney JobSeeking Day9: Dumbo

There's No One Like You

Any chance you have oversized ears? Can you fly? A circus clown perhaps? Maybe you have a different unique talent. A different skill. Interesting background, maybe? Everyone is different and everyone can bring something different to the table, so what makes you different? What is your unique selling point?

You may have an exceptional set of skills or talents that may not be relevant to your career path, as far as you know. But if you don’t utilize these, it’s a definite waste of your abilities. You could be driven to think you are not good enough and may hide behind closed doors trying to be someone else - perhaps a role model or an effective motivator. You have to be you. Not some fake you that's been created by society and reasoning.

Being you doesn’t mean using slang at interviews and talking to them like it’s just another day out with your friends. You need to compose your professionalism and merge it with your personality. And your skillset will carry you where you need to be. Don’t be afraid of what makes you different. Let your true self shine!

Only you have your experiences and your particular range of skills and talents. There’s no one quite like you.

Key Points:
> Identify your unique talents
> Practice interviewing/speaking if you have to
> Avoid imposter syndrome

Disney JobSeeking Day8: Live Your Own Dream

Disney JobSeeking Day8: The Little Mermaid

Live Your Own Dream

The general rule of fate is what is meant to be, will be! Logic and reasoning will contribute to your rational thinking, keeping you from doing something you love or somewhere you want to be. And some people may stand in your way, telling you that it’s a one in a million chance. But you have to trust yourself and live your own dream.

Do you want to open a restaurant? Find out what gets you there. Do your research and make your calculated risks. They will pay off. Maybe not immediately, but eventually. Do you want to be a mermaid? Find a sea witch willing to help you (Just pay attention to the terms and conditions).

If you decide to take that leap, look at all the information around you. Use the time and resources available to you, to study your chances and make your dream come true. If it means doing something else for a while, consider it. If it means learning a new skill, go for it. Even if it takes hard work, perseverance, and a little bit of luck to get you to your destination. But just give it time.

Find your dream and be a part of that world.

Key Points:
> Make your own choices
> Dare to dream; put in the work
> Trust yourself
> Research!

Disney JobSeeking Day7: Just Keep Swimming

Disney JobSeeking Day7: Finding Dory

Just Keep Swimming

People can definitely get distressed and frustrated by job rejections. Incorrect choices of job applications, unspoken conversations at interviews, disappointments or even goals unmet. We all have those days when we feel like we’re faced with impossible odds or circumstances we can’t overcome. But that’s just life.

When the going gets tough, you just have to keep going, no matter what. With time, those rejections will become experiences and those experiences will only add value the next time you come across similar situations.

Focus on what went well and what you could have done better, no matter the situation. Save it for the next time. Find your own way to take a step back and re-motivate yourself, assess, take a breath, relax and get back on that seahorse. It’s not the end of the world.

Following your favourite success stories or reading about your favourite companies is a great source of motivation. Write motivational quotes on post-it notes at your desk. Put up a vision board to remind yourself of the goal - what you are aiming towards and what it’s going to take to get there.

“When life gets you down, you know what you gotta do? Just keep swimming.”

Key Points:
> Step away from disappointments
> Make a vision board
> Do something you love
> Don't give up

Waiting for doors to be opened for you is definitely not the right way forward. You need to build your own destiny. Create your own opportunity. Start a blog or a vlog, interview for positions that are outside your comfort zone or even take on a challenging dream project.

If your gut tells you something feels right, don’t think twice to grab the chance and bring out the warrior inside of you. Even if it is something as simple as speaking up or taking part in a competition. Stand up for what you believe in and don’t be afraid to try something new. There will be people that may put you down or things that keep you from pursuing this aspiration, just stand tall and trust your gut.

Today’s world is looking for innovation and future-driven people. With any risk, you can expect mistakes and drawbacks, but if it is something you truly desire, keep going for it and you’ll get there. Once you start identifying your strengths, weaknesses and skills, you will understand what you can bring to the table.

There might be things that scare you, but most of the time, those are the things that are most worthwhile.

Key Points:
> Identify your key skills
> Try Something new
> Use your time wisely

Disney JobSeeking Day5: Be Curious

Disney JobSeeking Day5: Alice in Wonderland

Be Curious

Curiosity may get you into trouble, but it does pay off most of the time. Every person is different. For every person sure of the job that they want, there is that one person who just knows their skillset, but has no idea what to do with them. If the latter is you, don’t freak out.

Be curious enough to explore your field. Your industry. Consider looking into your interests and research the market to find your perfect job. There’s bound to be one out there. It’s entirely your choice to find a path of your own and drive yourself in the right direction. No one else can do that for you. Remember: just because you find yourself wandering, doesn’t mean that you are lost. Sometimes, it just takes a while to figure out where you need to be.

It’s important that you maintain your curiosity and never give up on your goals, no matter how impossible they seem. Learn from where you were and where you want to be. Journey down the rabbit hole. Anything is possible. Be prepared to take a risk - if you don’t know where you are going, any road can take you there.

Go as far as dreaming of six impossible things before breakfast.

Key Points:
> Wander into the unknown
> Keep learning
> Know your field

Disney JobSeeking Day4: Step Outside Your Tower

Disney JobSeeking Day4: Tangled

Step Outside Your Tower

If you stay content with your existing skills and talent, you will miss out on opportunities that would allow you to grow. Don't limit yourself to the knowledge you already have, you have to jump out of your comfort zone and explore the new trends and relevant skills and technologies that will better yourself and keep you ahead of the game.

Today’s competitive market requires the drive for learning, upskilling and even reskilling. You have a whole world of information at your feet. Don’t know something you need to know? Go out there and search for what you need.

Online courses, webinars, virtual or physical conventions, videos and even networking events may help you on your way to achieving success; be it for a job, a change in career paths or just to increase your personal growth. Use your time to learn new things, and if it helps, connect with someone, or find a “study group” who share the same interests. Teach each other and learn from each other; group learning can help keep you motivated.

Leaving your tower is the best thing you can ever do. It may be daunting and it may be terrifying, but take a leap of faith. Be courageous.

Disney JobSeeking Day3: Hard Work Pays Off

Disney JobSeeking Day3: Princess and the Frog

Hard Work Pays Off

Most things don't come easy, and job hunting is no exception. Take it from Tiana, who worked two jobs to make enough money to open her dream restaurant. Without a plan or vision, you might feel laid back, lazy or simply demotivated and could get in your own way.

Stick to a plan, a routine and don’t forget to leave some time for yourself. Exhaustion and frustration can easily find their way into you. Make sure to assess your skills regularly and use those skills and talents to your advantage. Know who you are and only apply for jobs that resonate with your skills. You will make it someday. Hard work does pay off.

Identify your strengths and weaknesses, your opportunities and your limitations. Make time for your work and the work will find you. Remember, there is no easy way out. There is no such thing as a free lunch. “You can only get something for nothing if you have previously gotten nothing for something.” To be successful, hard work is not optional; it's a requirement.

Wishing on a star will only get you so far. You need to help yourself with some hard work of your own.

Key Points:
> Identify your SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats)
> Your work will reflect your results
> Do your research

Disney JobSeeking Day2: Go The Distance

Disney JobSeeking Day2: Hercules

Go The Distance

In the midst of obstacles and challenges alike, you might feel like giving up. Have you ever seen a hero give up when the fight seems almost impossible? No! So why should you?

Be determined to push yourself forward and win. Don’t let all of your knowledge and skills go in vain. If you’ve got a plan, stick to it. If you don’t have one, well then, it’s time to get started. Build a roadmap of shorter and achievable goals, if it helps. Every mile will be worth your while, but be prepared to go anywhere to find the place you belong to.

If you find yourself losing motivation, step away from whatever you are doing for a minute or maybe an hour. Or even a couple of hours if you like. Do something else. Meditate, draw, listen to music - just get that groove back. Frustration never helps motivation, especially with endless applications and rejections.

It doesn’t matter how hard you fall; what matters is how far you fly after you pick yourself up. Before you fly, you must run because it could be a while before you land that dream job.

Always remember: giving up is for rookies.

Key Points:
> Build a roadmap of goals
> Keep SMART goals
> Plan and prepare
> Don't give up
